Using old speaker

Sat Aug 19, 2017 7:23 pm

I'm trying to use some components of an old 56k modem to mimic its old function. Currently I am considering if it is possible to reuse the onboard speaker (e.g. to play the infamous 56k modem sounds).
The speaker is 8Ohm, 0.25W.
I have never used a speaker directly, only plugged one in with regular cables. Do you think I could solder it directly to the r'pi 3.5mm out signal? Or would you go about this some other way?

The audio out of the RPi is intended to to be connected to a stereo audio amp or the red and white RCA audio input jacks on a TV or powered computer speakers etc.
There are some who have connected speakers directly to the RPi output, but IMO i would not recommend that.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.
