Hello
I've been trying to change the font color on the wurly skin with no luck.
in the wurly skin has this configuration:
ArtistText = 0 0 0 0 255 centre true true false 0 0 300
AlbumText = 0 0 0 0 255 center false false false 0 0 300
SongText = 0 200 0 0 255 center true true false 0 0 360

I went to the extreme and changed it to:
ArtistText = 0 255 255 255 255 centre true true false 0 0 300
AlbumText = 0 255 255 255 255 center false false false 0 0 300
SongText = 0 255 255 255 center true true false 0 0 360

is there someplace else I need to adjust the settings?
the font is always white.

Its been awhile but I believe the first digit number is the type of font as listed in order in the cfg file starting at 0,1,2,3 etc. The next three numbers/digits I believe are RGB color wheel. Depending upon the numerical combination of those three you will get different colors. The fifth number is the opacity?

Great that what I understood so I'm not out of my mind, but changing the values of the RGB didn't have any effect on the font color.

ArtistText = 0 200 0 0 255 centre true true false 0 4 255
AlbumText = 0 0 0 0 255 center false false false 0 0 275
SongText = 0 0 60 0 255 center true true true 0 3 275

This setting on my Fruitbox gives me a green color for the Song Text and a Red color for the Artist.

Hi

The text definitions are described in the user guide, section 5.4. I will check later by changing my values; since first glance at yours seem to be correct...

Btw, what version of fruitbox are you using?

I'm using version 1.14, section 5.4 is the section that I have read and have been trying to use to change the color.

I just tried the following settings
ArtistText = 0 200 0 0 255 centre true true false 0 4 255
AlbumText = 0 0 0 0 255 center false false false 0 0 275
SongText = 0 0 60 0 255 center true true true 0 3 275

with no change in color I'm making the adjustments in the Wurly directory fruitbox.cfg file is this the correct place?
I noticed a skins.txt file in the master directory it has the same settings what is this file for?
just for the heck of it I changed the skins. text file and that didn't do anything so I did a complete rebuild. installed a fresh os and configured everything and it works great except for the font color.

Hi

Yes the cfg file in the particular skins directory you are using is the correct place to change the colours. I tried it on my setup and it works fine (but that was with an older version so I'll check again with the latest version).

The skins.txt file contains the list of skins which are included in the skin chooser mode when you use the --choose-cfg option.

I'm not sure if this helps but i tried the all the others skins and they seem to change colors when the settings are changed, the only one that doesn't seem to work is the Wurly.

I appreciate the time you are taking to answer my issues.

Hi

There's no reason why the Wurly skin shouldn't work when the others do.

Are you sure you're editing and running the same skin? Sounds like a stupid question but there are three skins beginning with the letter 'W'. I've made this mistake myself before.

Alternatively, maybe the other graphic objects are somehow interfering with the pages. As a quick experiment, could you edit the cfg file and move one of the [page] sections to the very end of the file... this will cause that page to be rendered to the display last, and hence on top of the other graphic objects, so it's appearance won't be affected by any graphic which may be overlapping it.

Hi,

First, let me say that I love the software and really appreciate your hard work.

I'm trying to get the buttons for volume +/-, Random, Skip, Left and Right to work on the RaspberryPi 7" touch screen (selecting songs by touch works fine). I ran ./fruitbox.cfg --config-buttons --config-calibrate-touch and it generated the following file:

fruitbox.btn

Code: Select all

# fruitbox v1.14 button mapping file
# Missing buttons will assume their default values (see user guide)

ButtonVol+       = Touch
ButtonVol-       = Touch
ButtonRandom     = Touch
ButtonSkip       = Touch
ButtonLeft       = Touch
ButtonRight      = Touch
I moved that file to the TouchOne directory and Fruitbox starts fine on boot (./fruitbox --cfg skins/TouchOne/fruitbox.cfg ), but the buttons still aren't working.

The following is in my fruitbox.cfg file in the TouchOne directory

Code: Select all

[touch areas]
ButtonRandom = 423 421 94 53
ButtonSkip   = 546 421 94 53
ButtonLeft   = 663 421 48 53
ButtonRight  = 724 421 45 53
ButtonVol-   = 38 421 32 53
ButtonVol+   = 98 421 32 53
Not sure where to go from here. Any kick in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Please disregard this post and forgive my idiocy. I added --button-map skins/TouchOne/fruitbox.btn to the start command and everything is working.

Hi

You're almost there! The mistake you made was to move the fruitbox.btn file. This should remain in the directory it was created in (where the fruitbox executable is). Just move it back and run fruitbox normally and you should be fine.

FYI : the fruitbox.btn file defines the button mappings to particular hardware, and the [touch areas] define the areas on the screen which when touched activate a particular button code. So the former is skin independent and relates to your hardware setup, and the latter is particular to a skin.

Hope this clarifies things for you?

Cheers

Thank you Mike for all your suggestions it's fixed what I did was put the following code at the end the general section ArtistText = 0 0 255 255 255 centre true true false 0 0 300
AlbumText = 0 0 255 255 255 center false false false 0 0 300
SongText = 0 0 0 0 255 center true true false 0 0 360 and moved all the page section at the end of the file and that seem to fix it. thanks again for all your help

Hi

Glad it's working for you now. Out of interest, were the text definitions not in the [general] section when you were having problems before?

Moving the page graphics to the top of the render stack is not ideal since they are supposed be behind the foreground on the Wurly skin and be visible through transparent holes in the foreground, to make shadowing and clipping work properly.

Mike, thank you very much. This worked great.

I'm having an issue with sound though. I've gone through numerous posts trying to figure out why I'm not getting sound from the 3.5 jack or HDMI, but no luck with Fruitbox on Raspbian Stretch Lite. When I couldn't get any the online solutions to work, I thought maybe the board was bad somehow, so I flashed another card with Raspbian Buster with Desktop and sound worked fine on both 3.5 and HDMI. Put the card with Fruitbox on it in another Pi that I know has working sound, but no sound there. Is there anything specific to Fruitbox for sound?

Hi,

Sounds like your hardware is ok, so it's going to be a setup problem.

First thing to check is that the default broadcom sound driver is loaded. In the /boot/config.txt file you need to have the following line somewhere...

Code: Select all

dtparam=audio=on
If not, you need to add it. Remember to edit it in superuser mode, i.e.

Code: Select all

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
Second thing to check is that your master volume isn't turned down. Run alsamixer from the command line and crank up the volume using the cursor 'up' keyboard key.

Third thing you could try is to see if the default ALSA sound device is recognised by the OS. Type aplay -l (that's the letter 'l') from the command line and see if it detects the ALSA PLAYBACK device (probably card 0).

If both the above look ok, then you can use aplay to play a wav file. Copy a .wav file onto your Pi and use the command aplay <your wav file>. If you don't hear anything, then it's a system issue, not a fruitbox issue. Let me know what happens and we'll have another think...

Cheers,
Mike

Doh! I feel like such an idiot. The master volume was turned down. Thanks again Mike. Next up is to build a cabinet for this to look like an old juke box.

Is Album art supported? Saw a post in this thread that it would be supported in an upcoming release and I see fields 'AlbumArtSize', 'AlbumArtOffset' and 'AlbumArtAngle' are available in the config file but don't see where the filename is available (there doesn't seem to be a field for it in the database).

Hi

There are two modes in fruitbox - Singles mode and Albums mode.

Singles mode is the one that most people are using. In this mode, you can display the cover art for the currently playing song only. You need to use the $NOW_PLAYING_ARTWORK variable in a status box. See the NumberOne skin for an example.

In Albums mode, things are slightly different... as well as selecting a whole album to play as a single selection, the structure of the pages is different. Instead of listing individual songs/song pairs along with the artist, in Albums mode all the songs in the album are presented as a list. In addition, the album title is shown. But also, the album cover art is shown for each album page. This is where the 'AlbumArtSize', 'AlbumArtOffset' and 'AlbumArtAngle' config parameters you mentioned come in. There is also 'AlbumPageArtworkMode' which determines which image to use in different circumstances. See the Granite skin for an example.

As usual, please read the user guide for details.

Cheers

EDIT: forgot to mention that the artwork itself can come from several places...

  • embedded in the MP3 file itself
  • the file folder.jpg in the same directory that the song/album
  • a specified image
  • the fruitbox logo

EDIT: forgot to mention that the artwork itself can come from several places...

  • embedded in the MP3 file itself
  • the file folder.jpg in the same directory that the song/album
  • a specified image
  • the fruitbox logo
Cheers
Mike
Good to know. Thank you very much for the help.

Hi Mike,

I got everything working just nice but I was trying to get the sound through Bluetooth. I get it to work in desktop mode but it will not work in fruitbox, is it something I’m missing or it is not setup to work in the program?
If it’s not will this be available in future upgrade?
The little amp I got installed on booth up starts on Bluetooth, right now I only got to change to Line mode but it would be nice if it could get the sound out on the amp via Bluetooth, simpler for my wife (she is not very tech savvy)
I did install a Bluetooth manager Blueman and also pulse audio module the sound is way better in this way then analog line for some reason.
Thanks,
Mario

Hi Amiro,

I think, bluetooth is not implemented in fruitbox (yet?), which runs on command line level and I don't know if it will be.
There are imho other priorities to be managed before.

What you can do for the time being:
you might connect a bluetooth transmitter to the line out and send the audio signal to the BT amp box.

Regards
Raimund
