RTP Video Multicast Streaming

Thu Apr 23, 2015 9:09 pm

Hi Everyone,

My current project contains a server (laptop) which sends a Video RTP multicast stream (239.x.x.x) via wireless lan into the network. Clients (RPi's) should receive this stream and play it out. I've tried several setups but none of then gave me a satisfying result:
Does someone have a proper solution for my project?

Regards,
Burny

gstreamer is now in raspbian, so no special apt repository needed. Should work fine for you, just pass the sdp file to gst-launch.

One thing that's not in Raspbian is my gst-rpicamsrc element - which provides a GStreamer element for the camera directly, and avoids the messy need to pipe raspivid output into gst-launch. It's more efficient, and the timestamping is better - plus you can wrap it up in a python script and do dynamic changes of region-of-interest, or annotations (for example)

You can use the GStreamer rtsp-server (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/module ... erver.html) as a server.

It can do multicast streaming (see the examples in examples/ subdir), but be advised that in general multicast over wifi doesn't work that well - especially on a secured wifi, but also generally on an open network.
