Using RF Beacon System for an Follower Robot

Thu Sep 06, 2018 1:07 pm

TL;DR at the end

Hey guys, it's my first time posting here. So here it goes:
I'm working on a project. I want a follower robot. I've seen such projects which have been done with HC-SR04 etc. (they follow whatever is nearby) and I don't my robot to follow everything.

My idea is a robot which will follow only "me" (or any other special object/person etc.)

I had the thought of image processing at first but I think it's a little bit too "complicated" for me to do.

So I came across this idea of using a RF Beacon Tracking system with 3 antennas in a triangle on the robot

is it really possible and if yes, where can i start? (and how of course)

TL;DR: I want to build a robot which will follow only a spesific object. I want to use RF Beacon system for this, is it possible and if yes how where do i start?

Yes, I think this is what I am looking for! Thank you very much! Do you have any additional advice? Just asking

Perhaps not, my use of BLE with my pi is limited to copying other folks work to use off the shelf sensors as input to my home automation projects.
The feature to provide distance from the beacon was an incidental read, and something i have considered on the back-burner as a possible person detector for automatic lighting control, currently using pir tech lights can get turned off unexpectedly..

projects i have found useful and interesting include

and

And this is a pretty good intro to the tech http://www.raspberry-pi-geek.com/Archiv ... (offset)/4

many people have done this using an IR beacon.

You put a IR LED flashing at a certain freq (38KHz is most common) on the object that you want to track. Then you have a senor on the robot that tracks the flashing IR light see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rHuFFe6HRc if you look on YouTube there will be lots of examples
