Communication with Siemens PLC

Thu Jul 26, 2018 12:32 pm

I have RPi 3B+ system. I want to send data from Siemens S7-1200 PLC to cloud server via RPi card.
I think to connect PLC & RPi by Modbus RS485 or Modbus TCP/IP.
Now, Ethernet port of RPi is in use of PC connection.
Our query is, can we use single Ethernet port of RPi card is work over a Modbus TCP/IP as well as Ethernet simultaneously?
If we want to data transfer by RS485, then what to do?

Just in case.
The Pi's integrated ethernet works well with VLAN so you could assign the native ethernet link (eth0) to Modbus TCP/IP and a VLAN (eth0.1234) to the regular network. Assuming a switch/router that will handle VLAN.
Or add an USB ethernet adapter, so you'll get eth0 and eth1 on the Pi.

Hi,
I would use Profinet to connect the PI to the Siemens plc - either PN Controller or PN Device on PI side...
