Running a DNS Server on Raspberry Pi?

Sun Dec 23, 2012 5:30 pm

What I have been wanting to do for quite a while is run a DNS server on my Pi.
I want to do this because when I navigate to say 'reddit.com' after 12PM it will redirect me to a local page on my network saying that I am not allowed to visit that page.

So, does anyone know of a DNS server that runs on a raspberry pi?

The most popular option would be bind9. But there's also PowerDNS, both of these are available in the Raspbian repos. I've run PowerDNS without issue on the Pi, not sure how well bind9 performs on it though. Do some searching around there's plenty of tutorials out there for installing PowerDNS/bind9 in Debian.
