udisks and udisks-glue no more in Buster [SOLVED]

Tue Aug 06, 2019 9:48 am

Hi,

I have just setup a server with Raspbian Buster and I was going to install udisks and udisks-glue (to mirror another installation I have on Stretch), but I got this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install udisks udisks-glue
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package udisks is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'udisks' has no installation candidate
E: Unable to locate package udisks-glue
Disappointed. I don't know how to configure udisks2 for usb automount and can't find any guide for that.
On the Stretch servcer I have upgraded to Buster and udisks and udisks-glue are continuing to work.

Suggestions?

Try udevil
Does it provide automount at startup or by plugging the usb key?

Both. If you already have some USB drive/disk connected to the RPi, when you boot the OS, it will be mounted automatically . If you plug it afterwards, it will be mounted automatically also. Some OSs use it like LibreELEC and PiPplware at least. More info here:

I do remember that I changed something in udevil for my own, I don't remember what exactly, but I am sure it was nothing important.
To enable it you might need to enable the systemd service as the user you want the USB drives to be mounted, for example:
sudo systemctl enable devmon@pi

Replace "pi" for the user you want.

Did it. It was really easy to configure. I am also enabling the daemon. It works perfectly.
thank you!

I had just to change the permission of the folder: /media/<user> to 755 as I have a server user who needs to read it.
