New NAS project.

Wed Jan 24, 2018 10:35 am

Hi all,
So i am reaching out for some help with my home network.
At the moment i have a Pi3 connected via Wifi and connected to my TV with OSMC installed for watching films etc.
I am wanting to create a shared network drive using an external HDD and my Pi2 i have spare.
I was looking at setting it up with Open Media Vault but i was wondering if it would be easier to set up with something like raspbian?

I dont want a super fancy shiny fast NAS and i understand the speed limitations of the PI but i feel that if i can get a network accessible share on there it will be fast enough to offer any videos on there to the Pi3

The pi2 will be connected via ethernet to the router so no issues there. I am also not worried about connecting to it from outside of my home network at this stage.

its just a few commands to install and configure a simple samba server to share the root of a single disk.
