Do I need a WVC1 License?

Thu May 09, 2019 9:57 pm

I'm using H.264 encoded video exclusively on my Raspbery Pi media center (OSMC and Kodi). Would a WVC1 license do any good on my system?

No.
Plus, if your needs do change in the future then you can add it later.

The MPEG2 licence is useful if dealing with TV recordings (in some countries) but the fastest RPi devices now seem to do an OK job handling that sort of material using software decoder (without the extra licence)
