[Solved] Help attempting to watch live tv on kodi

Tue Jan 08, 2019 11:07 am

Hi, I have kodi 18 working on the raspberry with raspbian

I can't get my Avermedia Volar Green HD to work. (It's a835 / AFATECH AF9035 )

I have it working on Manjaro 4.19 on my desktop PC but I wanted to use it on the raspberry with kodi. (I have the 3B+ with raspbian 4.14.79-v7+ )

I already tried this tutorial with no success to compile the driver: https://debian-facile.org/doc:materiel:dvb:af9035
I copied the firmware to /lib/firmware/ from here: https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/AVerMedia

As it didn't work, I deleted files and folders that were created when compiling the above mentioned.

I also noticed some warnings and errors on dmesg when I plug it in (with and without drivers compiled):

Code: Select all

Any ideas on how to get it work?
Thank you!

My suggestion is to do your research and use a tuner that is known to work with kodi and a raspberry pi. I used a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950Q, and a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950 with libreelec without any issues. From your post getting that tuner to work will require a bit more effort than it would take to get a tried and true tuner off EBAY. Good luck.

I have done that for a similar if not the same tuner some time ago. I believe that you only need the correct firmware file. You can copy it/them from https://github.com/LibreELEC/dvb-firmwa ... r/firmware to /lib/firmware/

I have thought about it but I'll try to find a solution and leave that as a last option.

I copied and rebooted, but I'm getting same error with the dmesg command.

If you still get the same messages on dmesg, it is because you are still using your own compiled module. Remove it, or start fresh, you just need the firmware which I linked above.

I was able to solve that error!

Code: Select all

[ 5.152467] usb 1-1.3: dvb_usb_v2: 'AVerMedia AVerTV Volar HD/PRO (A835)' successfully initialized and connected
The only thing I did was updating the firmware of the raspberry with this:

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update

I had removed it before just when I saw that compilation didn't work, but I copied your files too. And the error was gone. (I also copied some files from my Arch linux firmware just in case, but I think it was the same firmware you provided in the link)

Edit: Live TV works perfectly with Kodi + Tvheadend.
