Stream library to outside network

Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:57 am

Hey everyone, I have been looking for an answer to this questions for a while and have not gotten any closer to a solution so hopefully you guys can help (read many topics on here and couldn't find it... sorry if I'm missing the answer somewhere):

How do I stream my media library to outside my network on another device using the raspberry pi?

I currently have a Raspberry Pi B+ running Kodi attached to an external hard drive that contains all my media. I am often gone from home for work and would like to be able to stream my media wherever I happen to be. I have multiple pi's with kodi which access the library via upnp while at home and would like a similar setup that would work while away from home (preferably with a pi). I have a few devices which I have tried various methods but nothing seems to work like I want. I currently transfer the files over to my remote device with ftp but that isn't very convenient. Any advice or help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle

I have seen similar posts about this before but always with a raspberry pi 2. I have multiple raspberry pi B and B+ and was wondering whether it would work with these models? I realize the raspberry pi will be unable to transcode files which isn't an issue.

Thanks again.
