Using Raspberry Pi for Stepper Motor with Motor HAT

Mon Nov 07, 2016 7:07 pm

Using a motor HAT from Adafruit and stepper motor, I am trying to create a default "home" position on a rotating carousel driven by a belt. Would it be possible to code a pre-determined position for the motor to return to after every instruction? The instructions are to rotate x amount of steps from the user's input.

From a g**gle, it appears that with a basic stepper motor it isn't possible. You need some kind of extra physical end-stop (end of carriage on a plotter, or 3d printer?) . Suggestion is to count the steps and return to that point. Not perfect, but seems that's it.

p.s. I wanted to set up a stepper based single hand clock, but setting the time is the problem!! Project on hold!
