Python BBS, need help starting out..

Fri Nov 04, 2016 2:02 am

I'm planning to learn Python by writing an old school BBS system for the Raspberry Pi. Can someone help me get this project started with a pointer to how to get Python to answer a telnet request, display some text and ask for a username and password?

Thanks

Telnet is just a normal TCP/IP socket connection on port 23 (usually). You should be able to find lots of examples of python code to make your own telnet server.

Try searching the internet for "python telnet server". I did and got lots of example code :-)

As usual , the Python community has you covered :

It is very likely that complete BBS written in Python exist too.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
