Beginning Python - any good?

Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:41 am

I'm a complete novice to programming, which is why I bought my Raspberry Pi. Reviews I've read suggest this is better than Python for Dummies, but how useful (or simple) is it for a complete beginner?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks, just bought Raspberry Pi - An Easy Guide to Computing. Looks worthwhile to go through that before trying the one specifically about Python.

Still got a little of the Pi user guide left to work through too

The book I always recommend is Python For Informatics by Charles Severance. It has the advantage that it is free.

It has a very gentle start, assuming no previous knowledge of programming. It is based on "Think Python: How to Think like a Computer Scientist" by Allen B. Downey which is also free and well received, but one of the changes was to introduce the gentle start.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I only got my Pi at Christmas, and have already found this forum really helpful on a couple of occasions. Awesome community! :D
