We need more info. eg. How is your display connected to the Pi? ** What O.S. (Raspbian?) are you running? What language are/can you code in?****
Trev.
** FWIW, I've used quite a few different methods:

**** and my "demo" software is written in 'C' : http://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi ... tware.html
Still running Raspbian Jessie on some older Pi's (an A, B1, B2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W) but Stretch on my 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, A+ and a B2. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

This tutorial (using Xojo) shows you how to wire up an LCD character display (it's a 16x4) and display information to it. Perhaps you could use it as a starting point?
