Automatically run a file on USB insert

Goodday,

I'm new to thee whole programming scene and don't know where to start. So maybe one of you could help me. What I'm trying to do:

On insertion of an USB stick I want a script to automatically scan the stick and open a file with the *.adf extension. Pause the script when the chosen emulator is running and resume the script when the emulator is stopped. Is it a plausible plan? And if it is, how do I do a thing like this?
