Pi 4B beta firmware 2019-09-06

Fri Sep 06, 2019 4:20 pm

I see there is a beta firmware in the rpi-eeprom repo on github with the above date. Is there a public changelog for this one we can have a look at?

Not yet, it will be when the Debian package is updated but not until next week. Feel free to

apt update
apt install rpi-eeprom

then use "rpi-eeprom-update -f" to install the beta.

The changelog is just the SDRAM changes. No new features

Thanks - I've installed it now so will see what happens. Hopefully this will allow the SoC to run slightly cooler at idle, but I have no real way of measuring this reliably. I am sampling the SoC temperature to a database once every 60 seconds though, so anything big should show up, although it is also quite strongly correlated with ambient temperature at idle.

Think I'm getting mixed up with the VLI chip's firmware update which I seem to remember reading can lower the SoC temperature slightly. Beta main EEPROM firmware is installed now and I can't detect any difference in the SoC temperature. I will try the v2 VLI update next.
