No reboot switching between client/AP mode?

Tue Dec 18, 2018 6:03 pm

I would like to be able to switch from client mode to AP and then back again without rebooting.

I followed these instructions on how to set up AP mode. And I do the inverse to get back, but for the settings to take effect I need to reboot. After I run the commands listed below I can successfully disable the mode I'm in, but I can't get the new settings to work until I reboot. I'm assuming there's some service I need to enable/disable, but I'm not sure which. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some additional info. I have been able to get the AP broadcasting without reboot but the ifconfig results still show a connection to my outside network.

After changing the files I've tried.
Client to AP
daemon-reload
restart dhcpcd
restart dnsmasq
start hostapd
re-run rc.local masquerade
run sysctl -p

AP to client
the same only stopping hostapd and running wpa_cli reconfigure
