What is Pi Optimum Operating Temperature for 24/7 Operation?

Mon Sep 28, 2015 5:17 am

Hi All,

I got my Pi working with R and currently i program it to pull some data, generate some charts and send email to myself periodically. My Pi is working 24/7 and i got some concern on its temperature as i can feel the heat when i touch the casing. So what is the optimum operating temperature for Pi?

Here is the my Pi's CPU temperature collected over 50 minutes (10 seconds resolution) using 'vcgencmd measure_temp'. Based on the reading, average idling temperature is 38 degree, 40 degree when CPU 100% load.

Thanks.

You've got good temperatures there. Nothing to worry about. :)

The Pi is set to slow down if it ever reaches 85°C (The chip has actually been tested to over 130°C, but that isn't a good temperature to run at).

If any of mine reached 65-70°C I'd be surprised.

Basically, heat isn't something you have to worry about on a Pi unless you are in an extreme environment and are loading the GPU very heavily - which is unlikely.

Thanks for the reply, at least i'm relieve now. I was afraid it might burn if i run it 24/7.

I hade a raspi outdoor with temperatures from +30 C to -5C inside the box (out doors was -18). No problem at all.
was running for 2 years 24/7
