Could someone please put the driver for the 3.12.28+ #712 build. I did a dist-upgrade and lost my connection to the wifi.

Hi, would there be any updates for 3.12.28+ yet? I just had my Pi upgraded and now can't get the WiFi dongle to work...

I successfully compiled for 3.15.3+ today, I am also using the PiTFT which I think caused my Pi to go 3.15.3+

You can get it here http://memention.com/8188eu/3.15.3+.tgz

The usual install commands
sudo install -p -m 644 rtl8188eufw.bin /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
sudo install -p -m 644 8188eu.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
sudo insmod /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko
sudo depmod -a

Hi, and thanks to MrEngman and others for making this working (very well indeed).
I need to get the source code for 8188EU module and compile it myself but was not able to find instructions. Could someone point it to me?
Thanks !

Even with the new firmware versions and drivers I kept running into : R8188EU: ERROR indicate disassoc
Wifi is not stable and Raspberry is not reachable during the day.
Noticed some work on the power usage in other threats and made a nice working script
(Already saved me a 8meter trip to my unit today :D )

sudo nano /usr/local/bin/testwifi.sh

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

TESTIP=192.168.1.1

ping -c4 ${TESTIP} > /dev/null

if [ $? != 0 ]
then
    logger -t $0 "WiFi seems down, restarting"
        /etc/init.d/networking stop
        echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/bcm2708_usb/buspower;
        sleep 2;
        echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/bcm2708_usb/buspower;
        sleep 2;
        /etc/init.d/networking start
else
    logger -t $0 "WiFi seems up."
fi
and put it in cron with a 5min interval
sudo crontab -e

Code: Select all

*/5 * * * * /usr/local/bin/testwifi.sh

Well, I did find the instructions I was looking for. Source : http://tech.enekochan.com/en/2013/05/29 ... -raspbian/. Pretty simple and it works fine for me at least

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/liwei/rpi-rtl8188eu.git
git clone --depth 1 git://github.com/raspberrypi/linux.git rpi-linux
git clone --depth 1 git://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware.git rpi-firmware
cd rpi-linux
git pull "<INSERT YOUR TAG HERE>".
make mrproper
zcat /proc/config.gz > .config
make modules_prepare
cp ../rpi-firmware/extra/Module.symvers .
cd ../rpi-rtl8188eu
CONFIG_RTL8188EU=m make -C ../rpi-linux M=`pwd`
sudo rmmod 8188eu
sudo install -p -m 644 8188eu.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe 8188eu

I have tried all the steps from Mr Engman above, and I've tried the cron script from Raymond, but nothing changes, I keep getting the "R8188EU: ERROR indicate disassoc" log messages.
I am running on Rasbian 3.12.28.
Frustrating thing is that it used to work (although not stable) on my previous Rasbian install (I think 3.12.22 (#691)).
Can someone point me in the right direction to get my wireless connection not only working, but also stable?

Martijn,
My script resets the USB ports and with that reset also the wifi
Do you see the WiFi messages in your messages log?

It is just a workaround until we get a stable wifi driver/firmware.
Saves me a trip to my Pi to reseat the wifi

Below is a version with a extra line so the scripts functions better.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

TESTIP=192.168.1.1

ping -c4 ${TESTIP} > /dev/null

if [ $? != 0 ]
then
    logger -t $0 "WiFi seems down, restarting"
        ifdown --force wlan0
        /etc/init.d/networking stop
        echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/bcm2708_usb/buspower;
        sleep 8;
        echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/bcm2708_usb/buspower;
        sleep 2;
        /etc/init.d/networking start
else
    logger -t $0 "WiFi seems up."

I have been following your guide about installing the driver for USB WiFi adapter TP-Link TL-WN723N and I have run into a problem I am currently not being able to troubleshoot.

This is my output: http://imgur.com/thyEqnG

I will quickly summarize it as well.

Code: Select all

uname -a
produces the critical output

Code: Select all

3.12.28+ #709

Code: Select all

lsusb
lists the USB adapter

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
The guide you provided, did not contain the exact version I wanted so I used 8188eu-20140705.tar.gz and it gave me the following error when I tried executing

Code: Select all

sudo insmod ...
as shown in the guide, I got the following error

Code: Select all

Error: Could not insert module /lib/modules/3.12.28+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless... No such device

Does anyone have any advice for a Pidora user?

I'm running 3.12.26 kernel and pulled down the 5-Jul-14 driver. Insmod reported a bad format.

I downloaded source from //github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu.git and tried to compile it. I received multiple

"LINUX_VERSION_CODE" is not defined [-Wundef]

"KERNEL_VERSION" is not defined [-Wundef]

errors.

Any thoughts?

I tuned a bit exiting driver compilation scripts for cross compilation on x86.
You can find it here.
https://github.com/daber/rtl8188eu
just follow instructions from https://github.com/daber/rtl8188eu/blob ... README.txt

Currently it complies against current 3.12.28+ kernel. But with correct branches checkout you should be able to change version.
Here you can find compiled driver for 3.12.28+

Hi, i'm french and new to raspberry pi universe :)

I want to use Xbian, with the TL-WN725N wifi stick. I've seen that is a pretty difficult one but anyway, it's the one i've got :P

I've read nearly all the posts here but i didn't manage to find one suited for me. I'm using Xbian RC3, i'm under, 3.15.8+, that's seems a bit strange. Anyone to help me ?

Thanks !

All,
Thanks for the replies and suggestions! Althoug I'm quite a bit into some fiddling and tinkering around, this feels like a tunnel without any light at the end of it.
I just spent $5 at dealextreme and got myself a new wifi adapter that, according to the Pi's hardware compatibility list should be plug and play on my Pi.

Kettal, is your WiFi adaptor getting enough power? Have you tried it through a powered USB hub or with a 2a power supply? I've heard stories of them doing weird things if they are starved.

Hi, yes i tryed with a 2.1A power supply same result ! all AP have -1% signal level, i'm sure it's not about the power supply because now i'm using a Alfa Wifi 1000mW card and it works, any suggestions ? Thank you.
