I pulled the latest git kernel updates, and installed a new kernel. I'm rather wishing I hadn't:

Lots of:hub 1-1.3:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -71)
DEBUG:handle_hc_chhltd_intr_dma:: XactErr without NYET/NAK/ACK
DEBUG:handle_hc_chhltd_intr_dma:: XactErr without NYET/NAK/ACK
DEBUG:handle_hc_chhltd_intr_dma:: XactErr without NYET/NAK/ACK

(This is not previously occur, at least not without plugging in a wifi device).

Did you build your own kernel, or use a prebuilt one?

If you built your own, can you identify the change that provoked it?

If you used prebuilt one, can you confirm the directly preceding one worked.

I can't identify 2012-05-05 (I don't see any commits to kernel that day).

Can you use the git hash to identify it?

Dom,

First, apologies last night I was tired and got the date wrong. I git pull daily (and build when there's an update).

On Tuesday, 2012-05-08 there was a single smc network patch. That kernel worked fine.

On Wednesday, 2012-05-09, there were a few patches (the patch set included dwc_otg_hcd.h and sdhci.h). This patch set caused the large number of errors in dmesg hub 1-1.3:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -71)
DEBUG:handle_hc_chhltd_intr_dma:: XactErr without NYET/NAK/ACK
and very slow performance.

Hope that helps.

I now can't reproduce the problem, either with the new arch kernel, or with my build. Sorry for the noise, but it appears to have been a transient issue.

I think most people will be happy with the distro updates (arch and debian in my experience do a good job). I'm an inveterate "fiddler", and I'd like to know immediately when wi-fi works with other USB devices, so I tend to try every update. I also ensure I have a known good state to revert to (in my case the arch distro kernel).

I recommend just waiting for new images to appear on the download page. Anything in GIT is not guaranteed to work - it is after all a work in progress.

Yes, github is for the bleeding edge testers.

It is useful to have people willing to test this, but they should only do so if they are happy to best test and produce detailed bug reports on github when things go wrong.

Sometimes it makes sense for a novice to udpate if a specific bug has been fixed in github, but not released in debian, but that depends on how adventurous you are feeling.

But generally, if you don't have a specific problem, then wait for the next official release.

I can confirm I too am getting a continous stream of these :

Code: Select all

DEBUG:handle_hc_chhltd_intr_dma:: XactErr without NYET/NAK/ACK
With one of these:
http://www.ebuyer.com/279680-xenta-7-po ... ed-n-uh720

Running this:

Code: Select all

Linux redmatter 3.1.9-14-ARCH+ #7 PREEMPT Sat May 12 03:38:21 UTC 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux
Hope this helps, and happy to provide more/better feedback if needed.

I'm using the last distro release and I'm having the same problem. see here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... =28&t=5529

Without even having a USB hub in use I see the same errors every time I plug-in an ethernet cable.
