Hello everyone ..

I want to play a movie with Arabic subtitle on raspberry pi ...

the movie works fine ... but the problem is the subtitle is "????????????"
all letters are question marks ...

I am sure that the subtitle is "UTF-8 " i also opened it as a text with leafpad and its ok and clear ...

can any one help me ???
I think its about the font that displays the subtitle ...

thanks ..

The default font Free Sans does not include the Arabic Unicode block. On Debian, the omxplayer options

Code: Select all

--font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSerif.ttf --italic-font /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSerifItalic.ttf
will set the font to Free Serif, which does include Arabic characters.

thank you for your help ...

the font-italic option is not supported by the omxplayer .. but its not a problem ...

the characters appeared in Arabic ... but from left to right ...

the Arabic language is from right to left ... the order if the characters is reversed ...
also the characters is separated .. but its likely because it is reversed ...

can you help me to figure a way to reverse it back ....

thanks ...

Does it display correctly if you manually reverse the letters?

It seems that XBMC supports proper Arabic shaping through libass for SSA subtitles. If you want, you can submit a feature request for simple reversing (trivial to implement) or shaping (more work) for omxplayer at https://github.com/popcornmix/omxplayer/issues.
