Huawei USB Dongle don't connect after upgrade

Hello,
I'm new in this board, this is my first post.

After upgrade to a new release

the Huawei USB surfstick can't connect anymore. Before the update it worked just fine.
I'm not too expirienced in linux, so I would be very happy if anyone can help me.

after lots of testing looks to me as a bug in modul option.
Downgraded to previous version works fine.

I also am having serious problems after the kernel upgrade. It wouldn't recognise the pcf2127a rtc. I did a complete new SD card from scatch and it worked. Then removed the rtc and substituted as DS1302 and built from scratch. Now, with the Huawei E353 plugged in, I get scatterlist errors, ep7in error -104/-121. I have no idea what that means! I also can't get into the terminal with startx as I get a timeout in locking authority file /home/pi/.Xauthority. No idea what that's about or how to cure it! Does Linux on the RasPi EVER behave? :cry: :cry:

Any help appreciated.

If you don't need cdrom support on you RasPi, consider disabling it by putting

in /etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf
Reboot and the UMTS dongle will work as before the update (at least it did for me).

Hi, Thanks for that. How on earth did you track that down? My only solution, when I got no replies was to build an electronic switch for the E353, controlled by one of the GPIO pins, so it only powers up when told to do so from rc.local and all is fine as it isn't around when the errors happen!

Searching for that timeout error lead me to discussions how to repair the cdrom support. But hey, the cdrom emulation on USB UMTS Dongles only contains software for Windows. We don't need that on a RasPi! So I just tried disabling that cdrom in order to get rid of the errors. And voilà: the cdrom emulation no longer disturbs, the ttyUSB* don't get disconnected, and the modem devices works properly. As a side effect, the RasPi also boots faster, because it doesn't wait for the cdrom_id timeout anymore.

Of course, this is only a workaround. Something has gone wrong in the last udev update, and that should probably be solved there. But as long as I don't need the cdrom anyway, that workaround works fine for me.

Only for CD-Roms (And DVD?)

Or does this include support for USB memory sticks as well?
