Blank screen on SDL apps without X

Sat Feb 09, 2013 8:07 pm

I was trying some SDL applications (fuse-sdl, dosbox) under Raspbian without X. With an HDMI monitor they run without problems. However, when I switched to an old TV with the analog video cable whenever I run an SDL program the screen turned blank and I couldn't do anything but to connect remotely or switch the PI off. I noticed that the problem was the overscan settings I had used:

overscan_left=16
overscan_right=16
overscan_top=16
overscan_bottom=16

When I commented out all the above the problem was solved!
Does anybody knows which is the actual cause?

Thanks for posting this, I had the very same issue.

Must be something to do with how video is re-scaled. Wonder if there is a way to adjust the setting without rebooting (i.e. just when it is run), would make it less of a problem.

Thanks!
