Lapdock Won't Start

Mon Dec 31, 2012 6:43 pm

I have 2 Lapdocks and all the appropriate cables and nothing I try can get the Lapdock to start. I have hooked the Pi up to the TV and it works very well. What am I missing?

Well... you should tell us what you do, because else it would be difficult for us to guess what you do wrong. :)

What cables/adaptators you use? how do you plug them ? Do you use a Rev 1.0 or Rev 2.0 RPi ?

The only thing I can think is the HDMI cable has to have all pinouts and some cables don't when you plug in the HDMI cables from the Lapdock to the pi you should get a register on the screen mostly it flashes for a second. Then connect the USB cables.

A likely culprit is the HDMI cable. Many cheap HDMI cables do not implement the individual ground wires, instead using a common shield attached to the shells on both ends of the cable.

The RasPi Hardware Wiki talks about this issue here: http://elinux.org/RPi_Screens#Motorola_Atrix_Lapdock

I have 2 female to male USB Micro cables, which have been tested with an external power supply. Both work. I use a USB A to USB A cable to connect the USB ports, which also powers the PI when plugged into my Windows laptop. I use a 3 foot HDMI cable and 1 of 2 HDMI micro adaptera. The cable has tested good, no way to test the adapter. The Pi is a model B, made in China, which boots everytime except when hooked to the Lapdock.

The push to test on the Lapdock shows that the batteries are charged, but nothing happens when hooked to the Pi. No "Any" key or any other key either produces any reaction. Everything sits dark & dead.
Is there a specific key sequence required to launch the Lapdock?

There is an existing thread by people who have accomplished this here - http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 599#p85599

Maybe worth a look, unless you've seen it already?
