Struggling with the terminal

Thu Dec 19, 2019 4:15 pm

I'm struggling to install two programs for my pi2b setup.

1. PIVPN
2. Arduino CLI

It seems like every attempt I make to install either of these leaves me with an error that I end up searching & trying to troubleshoot myself. After days of struggling, I figured I would ask what I am doing wrong. I'm not very experienced with the terminal.

NOTE: I am running OctoPi on my Pi2B

If someone can assist me in this, I'm willing to make a donation for the help getting these 2 running. I'm almost ready to throw this Pi out the window.

This command :
curl -L https://install.pivpn.io | bash

gives an error of :
curl: (6) Could not resolve host: install.pivpn.io

The curl command you copied on here appears to work fine. If you click on the https: part of the command does your browser open a text page starting..

#!/usr/bin/env bash

Yes it does. It redirects me to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pivpn ... install.sh

But I do see the script.

Am I missing something obvious?

you probably want to do

Code: Select all

curl -L https://install.pivpn.io | sudo bash
but the script uses the $SUDO variable which I can't find any reference documentation about.

regarding arduino-cli, it's a big and slow build (it uses Go). One of the install commands sat for several hours seemingly doing nothing, then returned successfully for me. It's quite beta; you might be happier with arduino-mk in the repos (but make sure you don't use the stock Raspbian arduino installation: it's awful - use this)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I still get the same error message. In my searching, a lot of people mention something wrong with the DNS settings. I do have the rpi set up with a static IP. I will look over the network configuration..

As for the Arduino, I'm trying to install the Arduino-cli so I can update the firmware on my 3d printer remotely. I've tried 3 different ways to install,
1. Golang
2. Homebrew
3. Git
Each one left me with an error, which I would then search for an answer to with no luck. (will post errors in next post)
