This person had a problem with a USB device, and while theirs was a camera, and yours is a drive I noticed a couple of things in common. One was that in both cases, the error message mentions 'using dwc_otg'.

They found appending a line to cmdine.txt solved their problem. It might not work for yours, but it might be somewhere to start..
If you do find a solution though, please make a note here.

Hello and thanks for this reply .

sure there is common things , but in my buster /boot/cmdline.txt file :
console=serial0,115200 console=tty1 root=PARTUUID=d9b3f436-02 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes rootwait quiet splash plymouth.ignore-serial-consoles
pi@rasphomefi:~ $

there is no " dwc_otg.fiq_enable " parameters , perhaps it is in another file .

But i had tried to format the mssd disk on my windows laptop , and don't initialize too ...

i think the disk is non functional , so i will send it to the vendor .

Did you try lsblk in a Terminal before you tried fdisk? Did the new disk show

for example, on my Pi 4 it shows these disks plugged into my USB ports

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 223.6G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 256M 0 part /media/pi/boot
└─sda2 8:2 0 223.3G 0 part /
sdb 8:16 0 2.7T 0 disk
├─sdb1 8:17 0 128M 0 part
└─sdb2 8:18 0 2.7T 0 part /media/pi/Tosh-3TB-Mov
sdc 8:32 1 29G 0 disk
└─sdc1 8:33 1 29G 0 part /media/pi/VIDEO
mmcblk0 179:0 0 14.5G 0 disk
├─mmcblk0p1 179:1 0 256M 0 part /boot
└─mmcblk0p2 179:2 0 14.2G 0 part /media/pi/rootfs
pi@raspberrypi:~ $

sda = my 240GB SSD formatted using SD Card Copier on the Pi Menu
sdb = my USB 3 3TB external drive
sdc = a 32GB thumb drive that had FAT32 as standard
mmcblk0 = my microSD used for booting to the SSD

I just wondered if lsblk shows 'anything' for your new drive at all?

Re: how to install disk mSSD not recognized ( or format )

Tue Nov 12, 2019 11:32 pm

My 240GB SSD was new and not formatted logically either. Blank new drives have always showed up for me using the lsblk command.
It is possible the new drive is faulty.
It is also possible that if you are using an adapter to plug the drive into the USB port on the Pi, that adapter might not be compatible.
There are quite a few posts on the forum about this problem with the USB adapters for ordinary SSD drives like mine.

Maybe someone else here has suggestions :-)
