Changing MAC address

Fri Oct 11, 2019 12:21 pm

Hi,

I’ve seen something strange with my Pi 4 and the WLAN MAC address.

I use IP address reservation on my router to provide static addresses to connected devices.

Over the last few days I have been booting from different, fresh installs of Rasbian Lite (2019-09-26) and noticed I could not connect with SSH using the usual IP address for my Pi4, looking at the router I see that the Pi has connected successfully but appears to have a different MAC address from what had been used previously, and hence been allocated a different IP address. Looking through the logs I have at least 4 different MAC addresses for the same Pi…

Has anyone got any idea on what could be causing this ? These are fresh installs, setup headless and updated, that is all ?

TIA.

EDIT:-

The MAC address appears to be changing after every reboot.

I guess that the mac address is somehow calculated at first boot. But I don't know.
Here is an article on how to spoof the mac address to some specific value:

Here is a thread on mac address of Raspberry Pi's:
