Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:12 am

Hello !

Is it normal for the newest Pi to boot so slow ?
It takes over 2 minutes to boot.

The first boot will take some time while it sets things up. Subsequent boots should not take very long at all.

Which OS are you running? Was it installed via NOOBS or PINN?

What size/make/model of SD card?

Network setup is a likely culprit.
If that pi is running dhcpcd without any options (as per your other thread) then I would look into that.

All boots are very slow.
I did not use NOOBS.

All there is in dhcpcd is:

Code: Select all

interface eth0
static ip_address=192.168.1.20/24
static routers=192.168.1.1
static domain_name_servers=8.8.8.8
I don't know what to look into ...

Go to the command line and run

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame
Post the results here using code tags for us to see.

System has not been booted with systemd as init system (PID 1). Can't operate.
Failed to create bus connection: Host is down
That is the problem !

Even though I've installed Raspbian Buster Lite: Linux raspberrypi 4.19.58-v7l+ #1245 SMP Fri Jul 12 17:31:45 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux systemd doesn't start.

Please also check my post here: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... -myservice

I've even added init=/bin/systemd to /boot/cmdline.txt, rebooted and I still got that error.

Try adding back the options you removed?

The boot time was the same way before I found dhcpcd.

Did you check the SHA value of your download vs the web value - it may have been corrupted.

As above - did you verify the write on the SD card? It could be a duff one?

Rather than jump in changing everything I would just start with a plain copy of the Lite OS (on a new card) and ADD the static details to dhcpcd.conf and bout a couple of tines - first is slow (disk set-up takes time) but the second should be OK.

Are you sure there us no other machine on your network called raspberrypi or using that IP address?

Could you just use one thread for you boot time issues else folk are going to get very mixed up :roll:

Maybe close this and put a link to the other one.
The other one is on https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com . They do not look the same to me. The more the merrier I say. I really need help

I did check the SHA value. I used balenaEtcher to write to the SD Card. The SD Card was brand new.
I don't have a new card right now.
This is the only Raspberrypi that I have. Also, it has the same behavior with different IP's also.

I did not verify the data written on the SD. I didn't know that I need to do that or how. I think that balenaEtcher check it after it writes the OS, doesn't it ?

How about just working through the questions rather than jumping around it makes life hard for folk helping as they can be duplicating questions and contradicting as we do not know why you are doing things.

I’m not following two threads - in fact I’m off for a shower :lol:

I did this:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /sbin/init; sudo ln -s /lib/systemd/systemd /sbin/init
then it worked.
systemd now starts, services start and the PI reboots nicely and much faster.
