No Ethernet connection after reboot.

Thu Jul 18, 2019 11:49 pm

Hi guys,

After reboot, my Pi4 cannot connect back with PuTTY and VNC. No ping answer. I tried with a different cable. I tried with pure DHCP and with quasi DHCP fixed IP. I tried before update/upgrade and after it and tried on other port. My 2 other Pis (Pi2. Pi3) work fine on ethernet cable. The only solution I found is detaching and re-attaching the cable and the Pi 4 gets IP and everything works fine. I use a 15W USB-C phone power brick to it. The Pi 4 is in headless mode.
Now I cannot imagine another thing, this is a hardware issue.

I really appreciate your answer. I have the very same issue like in the other topic and it looks like it is hardware related. I am going to the shop where I bought it and change it.

Thx.

I would look at buying a decent power supplier and not a charger.

The original Pi 3B had Ethernet issues (and WiFi) till I changed to a proper supply - saved me hours of frustration
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...

The USB phone charger is a decent one, an original Google Pixel 3 phone charger.

I have an original HP power brick also with 4A. I tried it also connected to pins. I use this one to power my Pi 3B+ with an SSD for a while without any issue.
So I think this not a power issue.

It doesn't matter how good the charger is - chargers are not power supplies. The Pi 4 is not a Pi 3. Get an official Raspberry Pi USB-C power supply.

So I trust you tried the workaround found in that thread. Does it work for you?
