Failed boot after update/upgrade

Thu Jun 13, 2019 6:10 pm

I have an RPi 3 Model B V1.2 running Raspian Stretch.

Yesterday, since I hadn't done it in a while, I did an update and an upgrade procedure. A couple hours later I closed my work and did a normal shutdown sequence. The next morning on power-up and boot, I saw kernel failure messages followed by the normal graphical desktop screen but with non-functioning USB keyboard, USB mouse and no Wifi login.

Can anyone help me recover from this situation?

If it were me, I'd copy Raspian to a new SD card. Boot to it and mount your original SD card with a USB adapter and copy the important files to the new card.

Then, before doing anything significant in the future, back up the image. Also make backups of your work whenever you do something you don't want to lose. If an update and/or upgrade fails, you just copy your image back to the SD card.
