Chromium crashes when I go to Pandora login page

Fri Mar 22, 2019 9:12 pm

I have been using my Rapsberry Pi 3 with a Pimoroni PHAT DAC to listen to music, ofteh with Pandora.

After not using the Pi for a while, I upgraded the software with sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade.

This updated Chromium to this version:
Version 72.0.3626.121 (Official Build) Built on Raspbian , running on Raspbian 9.8 (32-bit)

Prior to this update Pandora worked well. After this update the Pandora login page crashes in Chromium.

I am able to still listen to NPR and my favorite radio stations.

I just tested Youtube and it also crashes.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I have started getting crashes on Chromium after the latest update. Still works OK on the previous version.

It would probably help those looking into issues if you could say what crashes, when doing what and where, ideally how to replicate that.

A bit unfortunate, since I can't get to the pandora login page from the UK without tor or a VPN. Can't check this right now. Are there any other pages that reliably crash?

Yes, you are right, sorry.
Chromium crashes when browsing Yahoo. It occurs after loading couple of pages and is repeatable. It started after the last upgrade to both Chromium and the Raspberry Pi Kernel update.
I tried resetting Chromium and disabled the Apps with no change
I have since tried Google and this Forum with no problems so far, so it maybe related to just Yahoo. I just tried my Email which is though Yahoo and the same thing happened. Using Email though Thunderbird works fine.
Browsing the UK newspapers also causes a crash, as also the Washington Post.

All those work for me with Chromium 72 when I try it - Pi 3B Raspbian Stretch - so it might take some digging to figure out why it's not working for you.

I don't recall any recent kernel update. Maybe start with exactly what you had and now have.

Do the people seeing crashes have libgl1-mesa-dri installed?

I'm not quite the target audience you were asking but, FYI, I have it installed and am not seeing those crashes -

Code: Select all

pi@Pi3B:~ $ sudo apt list -a libgl1-mesa-dri
Listing... Done
libgl1-mesa-dri/stable,now 13.0.6-1+rpi2 armhf [installed]
libgl1-mesa-dri/stable 13.0.6-1 armhf
Removed it and things became very unresponsive, not 'crashing as such' but 'hanging', bringing up 'unresponsive' dialogues.

Reinstalled and back in business.

I have found the problem with my crash, Chromium was updated and reset the options, and the hardware acceleration option was changed. It's working OK now

I just got back to this issue.

Yes, I have libgl1-mesa-dri installed:

Code: Select all

sudo apt list -a libgl1-mesa-dri
Listing... Done
libgl1-mesa-dri/stable,now 13.0.6-1+rpi2 armhf [installed]
libgl1-mesa-dri/stable 13.0.6-1 armhf
I checked the hardware acceleration and it is turned off.

When I turned the hardware acceleration on and relaunched Chromium, the Pandora login no longer crashes.

When I checked Youtube, it also no longer crashes.

Everything is now working. Thanks for all of the help!

Which hardware acceleration option are you referring to?

I apologize for not being clear.

When I turned on the hardware acceleration option in Chromium settings, all of the problems went away.
