New Pi 3B+ slower than old Pi 3B

Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:24 pm

I recieved two new raspberry pi 3B+ from SainSmart and they are both significantly slower than the Pi3B and Pi3b+ that they replaced. First noticed it when it took longer to boot and all functions are laggy. These new Pi3b+ have a different pcb layout than my original one and are not connecting to the wifi. All it shows is no wireless interfaces found. These Pi's were on sale for $20-$30 did I get shipped duds or am I missing something?

Your new Pi 3B+ actually appears to be an old Pi B+.

Read the text on the PCB next to the 40 pin connector.

The simple answer is that is not a Pi 3B or Pi 3B+. I suspect it is a Pi 2B or even a Pi (1)B+.

There is an easy way to be certain. Type this command in the Terminal and see what it says

Code: Select all

cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model;echo
If it is a real 3B+ it will say

Code: Select all

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3
(note the "3" in there) and not any of these

Code: Select all

Raspberry Pi Model B Plus Rev 1.2
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Rev 1.1
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2
or anything else.
(for future readers, the "Rev" part may change if a revised Pi 3B+ is released, don't worry about that)

No need for that, the text printed on the PCB states Pi model B+ - they are Pi 1B+ boards
