Pi 3 internal WiFi adaptor stopping when used as AP

Hello all,

I have set up a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B as a wireless access point using the internal WiFi adaptor and hostapd, but the AP keeps on stopping after about 5-10 minutes (AP disappears, but Pi is still working). There are quite a few devices connected to it (5-10), but I would have thought it would be able to handle it. Below is the hostapd configuration and the error messages from the kern.log.

The Pi is running NOOBs with the lastest updates installed (Debian 8.0). Before updating to the latest kernel, I was also getting stack trace errors in kern.log, which I have also included below (just in case). When I try and restart hostapd after the AP disappears, the AP flashes up, but disappears again and produces error messages, which I have included right at the bottom.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to confirm, can you post the output of uname -a so we can be sure which kernel you have. There have been a couple of Wifi fixes in the last 3 months which may help so will be interesting to see if you have them.

That mailbox issue is currently under investigation, although I have been unable to replicate it. Might be worth posting your error report on the Wifi github issue. https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1342

Are there any Samsung devices attaching? Anecdotally, some SS kit seems to cause issues.

Yes. There are a couple of Samsung phones connecting to it.

I have just added ieee80211n=1 to the hostapd config and it seems to be stable at the moment running in a console in debug mode. My updated hostapd config below. Just going to wait until lunchtime (when there will be lots of people trying to connect to the network) to see if it crashes again.

Will have a look at the github issue. If there are any other outputs you would find helpful for the wlan bug, feel free to give them to me and I will rebreak it.

Had one day of perfection, but it keeps stopping now. Logs/Output below. Let me know if there is any debug logs tool I can run to get you more info.

I got tired of trying to make WLAN0 work as an AP, after a long lost time I decided to buy a TP-Link WN722N and use it. Problem solved, I never had any problems.

But I keep thinking, the Broadcom drivers are bugged or the problem is in the hardware?

Just an update. The AP point that I have set up has been working solidly for the past couple of weeks using the following configuration.

The last change (changing wpa=3 to wpa=2) seems to have fixed the issue, so I wonder if the issue is something to do with WPA?
