Alexa and Flash Briefings

Thu Jan 05, 2017 4:46 pm

Hi,
I've got a Pi3 running Alexa without too many difficulties. It does throw errors occasionally but it's a bit of fun.
Has anyone got the flash briefings to work so that the News works? I've used the app on my phone and also through the alexa.amazon.com website. All are switched on but Alexa says otherwise. Is this something that the Pi version cannot do?
Cheers
Robert

I have this problem too but with a pi2 - did you find a solution?

TIA

I think I'm having this same problem as well. Alexa's working fine, for the most part: I can ask her what the weather is and what time it is and that sort of thing. Every time I say "flash briefing," though, it just goes silent, then when I log in via SSH I see in alsamixer that the volume has been turned down to 0.

If you are in the UK then it might be because AVS is only supported in the US.

See this thread at the amazon developer site. https://forums.developer.amazon.com/que ... a-app.html

After some more debugging with the console and alsamixer open while it's trying to play the flash briefing, it is actually connecting and playing the content from NPR, etc. It's just that immediately after she says "Here's your flash briefing" it immediately turns the master volume down to zero. If I force it back up during playback I can hear it going. I don't know what part of the process is changing it...
