setting up bluetooth audio on Pi3

I have successfully paired a bluetooth speaker with my Pi3, but I am at a loss how to select it for audio output.
I have found several installs which use bluez-alsa and bluez-utils and set up an entry in alsa which can be selected, but these packages do not seem to be available in the latest raspian distro. (release date 2016-02-26) I did a distro-upgrade on this and installed pi-bluetooth. I also have blueman installed and these let me pair the speaker.
How do I go about getting audio connected to it?

The installs you are reading are for Bluez 4.9x, Raspbian Jessie has Bluez 5.xx which has many differences:
