Green Light No Longer Blinking When Power Down

Hi All,

I was using the old Jessie image from last year until yesterday. I did a clean install on raspbian using the latest image 2016-02-09-raspbian-jessie-lite.zip. After that i noticed that when i send

Code: Select all

sudo shutdown -h -P now
to shutdown the device, the green light did not blink 10 times before complete shutdown.

Is it normal for the new raspbian to behave like that? I see no such behavior for the old raspbian.

Thanks.
Regards.

Edit: Sorry didn't mention it earlier, I'm using a model B+ when i see this behavior.

Yeah, I've noticed this too, on a Pi 2B

The newest Raspbian Jessie full version still does the 10 flashes on shutdown.

Haven't tried the full version yet as it takes time to download. (Slow internet speed here...)

Anyway seems like the latest jessie lite will skip the green light 10 time blinking? Not sure if you can help to try on latest jessie lite?

I've just installed that (Raspbian Jessie Lite) image on a Pi 2B and it still does the 10 flashes when I run that command.

Did you do anything else, other than just install the image?

I'm now trying apt-get update/upgrade to see if that makes any difference... no, still does the ten flashes.

Not on my machine. It has a fairly clean install of the latest Jessie full version, and last I checked, no blinks after a 'sudo halt'. I'll give it a play this weekend.

That might be your problem.

Try sudo poweroff instead of sudo halt. Debian have fixed a long standing "bug" in their shutdown behaviour where halt actually did a poweroff when it wasn't supposed to. If you do halt it stops the system before it gets to the code that does the ten flashes.

On a PC it is the difference between the PSU turning off and the system just stopping with "System halted" on the screen.

Hi, thanks for the info, did you use sudo shutdown -h -P now or sudo poweroff? I've reflash the image but i still not seeing the 10 blinking light when power off.

Edit: Just tried on the sudo poweroff command. Still makes no difference. Still can't see the 10 blinking green light. I've verified the downloaded image with provided SHA-1 and it is correct. Can you confirm you are using the 2016-02-09-raspbian-jessie-lite.zip?

Not sure if you can try "sudo shutdown -h -P now" command and see if you can see the blinking light? If you can't see it that means I'm not the only one seeing this behavior =)

I tried both. They both worked. The shutdown on jessie is a lot faster than on wheezy. If you blink you miss the flashes!

Hi All,

I observed another issue on my Pi and I think it is some how related to the green light no blinking after shutdown. I used back old raspbian (2015 Nov) and I can see the blinking green light again when shutdown. So I guess this observation tell us there might be an issue with the latest image. If you are curious, here is the link to my other post on the forum.

Checked my P2B with this Jessie (full) version:

Code: Select all

pi@raspiJamesA8Gb ~ $ uname -a
Linux raspiJamesA8Gb 4.1.13-v7+ #826 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 13 20:19:03 GMT 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux
and then updated/upgraded** to this:

Code: Select all

pi@raspiJamesA8Gb ~ $ uname -a
Linux raspiJamesA8Gb 4.1.17-v7+ #838 SMP Tue Feb 9 13:15:09 GMT 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux
In both cases sudo shutdown -h now and sudo shutdown -h -P now resulted in 10 flashes.
NB:The P2B is not booting to the Desktop (by choice) and I was logged in remotely.
Trev.

I'm still not getting the 10 blinking green light when shutdown. Weird. Is this problem only occur on Pi1B+?

Without knowing about this thread, I posted this in troubleshooting

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=138397&p=918817#p918817

It shows that this phenomenon does manifest itself with the Pi A+ and the current full kernel.

Thanks for the info. I'm not alone after all...
