RPi "Black Square" (CPU/RAM?) gets hot immediately

Hello,

My Pi (B+) suddenly shut down (it wasn't running that long, and the room temperature was below body temperature) and the whole Pi became very hot. I put it on a cold ice pack (no moisture on the outside of it) and it soon was touchable again, but when I plugged it in again it immediately overheated. Before, it was also making strange noises.

I did not do very much that I would think cause this. This happened when I was holding the Pi with the PiTFT screen on, and a portable charger (from Adafruit) underneath it (I was holding the bundle).

Is there any way to fix this? Has anyone else had this problem before?

There is no way to fix this. Throw it in the bin and get a new one.

99.9% of the time the cause is bad wiring on the GPIO pins, maybe your TFT screen was backwards?

Okay, I guess that's what I'll do.

It's a really nice thing that they are really cheap!
On top of that, it gives me an excuse to buy the new Pi 2

You may have shorted across the GPIO with metal parts of your charger or you may have shorted something with a metal ring, watchband etc.
