Canakit 8gb micro-sd card busted after just 2 days

Sat Feb 14, 2015 9:57 pm

Hello all,
I just got my first raspberry pi thru canakit. I setup raspbian on the 8gb card that was included in the kit and was able to control a few LEDs. all that went well. Now on the second day, I tried to boot up the RPi but it wouldn't do so. I took out the micro-sd card and put it in my laptop, but the laptop would not even recognize it. (in windows and linux). I also tried it on a macbook but with the same result. So I'm, guessing its a problem with the card, not the board.

I find it strange that the micro-sd card would get spoilt after just a day of minimal use. Has anyone else faced the same problem?

regards,

If it really is broken I would get it replaced by the supplier...

I would let Canakit know that it failed. I think the RPi has a one year warranty, but I have no idea what Canakit's warranty on the SD card might be. I also bought my RPi from Canakit and have had no problems with it. Any product will have failures now and then; I guess you're just the lucky one.

Ok, so it was definitely the micro-sd card. I loaded another one and its working. Canakit is sending a replacement.

Just weird that it'd bust so soon.

If you graph the failure rate of electronic devices over time, it generally follows a "bathtub" curve: high infant failures at first, low failure rate for a long time, then rising failure rates as things just plain wear out. You were one of the "lucky" ones to get an infant failure.
