Child running code club?

Tue Apr 02, 2019 6:32 am

Im a 13 year old, and I'd like to get in contact with my council about starting a weekly code club at their library and have them endorse it.
Any ideas?
Will they take me seriously?
Do the logistics stop this?

I expect you will run into an issue of there needing to be 'a responsible adult' involved somewhere along the line. The best thing to do is to ask them; anyone here can only second-guess how they might respond.

Good for you.

Best thing is to contact the library first and see if they can help you approach the council with a plan. Cost, space and safety will be three concerns you need to at least have an idea on how to address with a basic idea of what you want to do (NEVER use the phrase ‘play with the Pi’ :D )

It could also be worth checking if any grants or support are available from local companies (and it does not have to be technology based - but they are good for a start) in exchange for sponsorship (even simple ‘thanks to xyz’ on the bottom of the worksheets)

I take it you have been through https://codeclub.org/en/

Can anyone at school or your local tech college help (tutors / tech support)?

I know the Micro:bit had U.K. library based funding at one point - maybe you could check there as well to offer two options https://microbit.org/en/2017-10-23-libraries/
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...
