Official touch display not working (SOLVED)

Tue Oct 06, 2015 12:04 am

I got my element 14 official rpidisplay and went through the build instructions in the video on the blog. However either the rpi is not detecting that there is an lcd screen, or the item is dead.
I've double checked the ribbon connectors, run sudo apt update and upgrade.
The pi is booting up OK because if I connect and hdmi screen that works fine.
However, without the hdmi screen connected, nothing at all appears on the lcd. (no light, nothing that I can see)
I have tried this with Jessie and with the previous raspbian build.
I am using a raspberry pi 2

Am I missing something obvious? Any recommendations for trouble shooting?

Many thanks in advance
Richard

** aargh! ** it was something obvious!
I had put the ribbon cable in upside down, that connects the board for the display with the pi

I clearly am not very good at reading instructions.
I think when I checked it, all I did was to see that the ribbon cable writing was on the inside bend of the cable like in the video, but of course that was not a good check.

Anyway, it's working great and gorgeously now :)
