Gert VGA 666 and Official RPi Touchscreen

Fri Oct 02, 2015 5:04 am

Is it possible for both the above-mentioned (i.e. 2 screens: VGA display & 7" Touchscreen) to co-exist in the current Raspbian / firmware release & config?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.1.7+ (dc4@dc4-XPS13-9333) (gcc version 4.8.3 20140303 (prerelease) (crosstool-NG linaro-1.13.1+bzr2650 - Linaro GCC 2014.03) ) #817 PREEMPT Sat Sep 19 15:25:36 BST 2015

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo vcgencmd version
Sep 23 2015 12:12:01
Copyright (c) 2012 Broadcom
version c156d00b148c30a3ba28ec376c9c01e95a77d6d5 (clean) (release)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

/boot/config.txt
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
dtoverlay=rpi-ft5406
dtoverlay=vga666
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sudo vcdbg log msg shows that both overlays were loaded properly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
001502.478: dtparam: cache_line_size=32
001538.206: Loaded overlay 'rpi-ft5406'
001555.047: Loaded overlay 'vga666'
001568.296: Loaded overlay 'rpi-ft5406'

001574.821: gpioman: gpioman_get_pin_num: pin SDCARD_CONTROL_POWER not defined
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Test Case 1:
If enable_dpi_lcd=1 (/boot/config.txt), blank screen on the Touchscreen (i.e. not initialised).
Primary display is HDMI.
omxplayer --display=4 or omxplayer --display=6 goes to Gert VGA 666 display.

Test Case 2:
If enable_dpi_lcd=0 (/boot/config.txt), Touchscreen is the primary display and shows the boot up sequence followed by GUI.
omxplayer --display=5 or omxplayer --display=6 goes to HDMI display.

Rationale / Use Case: Driving a couple of old VGA monitors (w/o HDMI i/p) in the lab using Gert VGA 666 Adapter together with the new 7" Touchscreens.
