Display not powering on?

Mon Sep 21, 2015 10:58 pm

Not sure if I did something wrong, but I can't seem to get the screen to power on. Using a 2.5a supply and I think I have all the connections right. Is there something special you have to do to get this working?

Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat - using an rPi-rated power supply, plugged into the display board PWR IN, and a USB-cable to the rPi2... the display board seems to power up as it passes through power to the rPi2, which boots, but I don't see anything on the display. Should I (we) be seeing other clues that the display is powering up - i.e. an LED or something. Anything else we can do to debug it besides re-seat the cables - which I've done twice now, and they all seem to be firm and snug ...

Have you updated the software using

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

I haven't been able to boot Raspian on it yet because I don't have any SD cards larger than 2Gig but I have been trying to make it work with OSMC .. if this is simply not supported, okay, roger that over and out .. good to know .. but what I really want to know is if the display requires an appropriate software signal to do anything - i.e. boot up at all (switch on backlight) and so on .. so I can stop worrying that it might be the cables and just go get Raspian for it instead ..

I doubt that OSMC will support it yet...

I'd suggest you switch to Raspbian for a while until support appears...

Limited support is available in OSMC for now -- in that you'll need to manually set a video mode in config.txt. Our September update is due this Sunday and will introduce automatic display detection in Kodi.

Sam,

Have you fixed the touchscreen in Kodi then?

Okay I found an 8g SD card and installed Raspian .. I can confirm that the display now works once you boot the latest Raspian .. on to debug the next thing, which is of course .. touchscreen events not working. Time to check the cable.

Did you do

sudo rpi-update

To move the the latest kernel? It's pretty stable right now anyway but has a fix in it for the touchscreen

It will also rotate the screen to be the correct way up for the display (the display does have an up / down and it's by default the wrong way around!) you can add lcd_rotate=2 to config.txt to stay how it is right now

Hi Gordon

Dom tells me that the support for the touchscreen is limited, and works as a single button mouse at the moment. However I understand he has made some changes to enable automatic display detection and that's what we plan to get included in OSMC over the weekend.

Sam,

Yes it kind of works if you keep jabbing at the display randomly but it's definitely not right yet, not really sure why but looks possible that it's doing something wierd with the events...

Well, to give everyone an update, I updated raspbian and mine works. I had found it in another forum, but thanks for the help anyways.
