Official Touchscreen - confused/underwhelmed

Fri Sep 18, 2015 7:06 pm

I have installed the screen and updated my raspbian using apt-get, etc. The touch screen would then respond to touch. I ahd to install another application to get an on-screen keyboard. I then expected to be able to do things like zooming in and out using touch gestures, but nothing.

Then I tried booting from a new Raspbian SD card (the latest download following the instructions "N.B. Will require the latest version of Raspbian OS to operate correctly.") and the touch screen no longer responds to any touch.

So, what should I expect and what do I need to do?

What else do I need to install?

From the blurb I read, I expected the touchscreen to be fully supported and work "out of the box".

1. You need to run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade to get latest software packages.
2. You need to run sudo rpi-update (once only) to get the latest RPF kernel and firmware for the new screen.

The "working out of the box" stuff will be built in to the next generally available release of Raspbian (which may be Jessie rather than Wheezy).

So who do I contact to get the installation instructions updated? There are clearly a number of crucial steps missing in updating Raspbian. Also need to warn people that the stand may not be for for purpose as it cannot be fitted "the right way up".

From the linked thread

"Add lcd_rotate=2 to config.txt if you prefer the previous behaviour"

Return to “Official Foundation Display”
