New 7 Inch Raspberry Pi Touchscreen

Tue Sep 15, 2015 9:24 pm

I have just installed the new Raspberry Pi 7 inch touchscreen and when I use the Raspbian software everything seems to function properly, however when I load up with Ubuntu Mate the display functions but without the touch part. Any suggestions or missing information?
Thanks

It requires an update to the firmware for Ubuntu, please contact the Ubuntu distribution people for this...

Hi Gordon,

Are there any kernel specific options which should be enabled to use the display?
When I use a recent firmware, with a kernel compiled using buildroot, I do see the splash screen, but no console output.

No there are no options required to make it go to the LCD... If you are seeing a splash screen this means the LCD is working... I would suspect the buildroot more...

What happens if you unplug the LCD and plug in an HDMI, does it work faultlessly?

When connected to a HDMI display, I notice exactly the same. The blown-up coloured pixels are shown, no console messages.

I'll compare the kernel configurations to find a solution. Thank you.

It looks like the rotate_diplay config doesnt rotate the 'touch' function. Someone noticed that too ?

(I cant manually rotate i'm using the pimoroni stand)

Looks like lcd_rotate=2 work better

Yes Paul, "display_rotate=2" only rotates the display, not the touch area.

Other posts have said to use "lcd_rotate=2" instead, but for some reason it is ignored on my system.

I've done a "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" but it still ignores the setting. My guess is that its not updating the boot loader correctly but I don't know how to solve it. My system is basic raspbian (05-05-2015).

If you get it working, please let me know what you did.

New firmware available via rpi-update fixes a touch screen issue and in might be the thing that implements lcd_rotate as well (as they changed the default to "upside down" :D )

I was building for the RPI2, while using a B+. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Using the (buildroot supplied) raspberry_defconfig the compiled rootfs and kernel work fine.
