Re: RPi4B with Buster - VNC not working....

I have currently set my RPi4 to boot to the CLI rather than the GUI in raspi-config (B1).
Is this what is preventing the VNC connection showing the desktop?

I would have believed that the VNC desktop should be created when the user connects via VNC and not sitting there all the time with no user...

RPi4B with Buster - VNC not working....

I have installed and upgraded the Raspbian Buster on my new RPi4B 4GB box. It is all up to date. The installation was done headless because I have no monitor for the RPi4, so I have access only vua PuTTY and want to use the desktop via VNC. So in raspi-config I have enabled VNC too. But when I try t...

Re: Installing Raspbian on headless RPi4 - how?

Thanks all! I got this going by creating the ssh file and editing the wifi supplicant file as described above. Had some other issues so I moved to a different thread for that and forgot about this discussion, hence my absence. Problem solved for both the RPi4 (built-in wifi works fine of course) but...

Re: Raspbian Buster Lite on RPi2B cannot update/upgrade trough apt

I downloaded all 3 versions of the Buster image last week when I installed on my new RPi4 and an older RPi2. Now I don't remember which version I chose for he RPi2... Is there a way to check this after the fact? I.e. a terminal command to display the version of Raspbian? I have yet to run the update...

Re: Raspbian Buster Lite on RPi2B cannot update/upgrade trough apt

Looks like our posts crossed... Network problems most certainly, either WiFi in my end or busy servers at RPi foundation while doing the apt upgrade. Since my problems happened around midnight (Europe) and was OK 6 hours later there just might have been a "rush hour" problem.... I speed tested the W...

Re: Raspbian Buster Lite on RPi2B cannot update/upgrade trough apt

FWIW: it looks like a network problem from the errors. I found an Ethernet cable and wired up the network to the RPi2B unit, then logged in via the eth0 IP address to shut down the WiFi interface. Turns out that I was hit by the change in command syntax... sudo ifdown wlan0 does not work with Buste...

Raspbian Buster Lite on RPi2B cannot update/upgrade trough apt

I have installed Raspbian Buster Lite on a RPi2B and it looked OK when done. I can SSH into it and run raspi-config to complete the setup. After the installation was done I tried to use apt to update it: sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade What happens is that update reports that 28 upgrades are availa...

Re: PI2B headless with Raspbian Buster - installation with WiFi

Sorry for the noise! Turns out that the Edimax adapter is recognized and the RPi2B connects just fine to the WiFi upon first installation after fixing the two files in the boot section of the SD-card as described in the linked to thread. "Just test it" is the command to use.... PS: I used the Buster...

Building a headless server on RPi2B, which Buster version?

I don't know what will happen if I use the "Lite" version of Buster concerning use of the RPi as an OpenVPN server. It is going to be headless and just serve as a connection server. Is the difference between Lite and regular versions all concerning the GUI interface so it can be disregarded and thus...

PI2B headless with Raspbian Buster - installation with WiFi

I would like to know if I can get the a headless RPi2B+ installed using the Raspbian Buster image without wired network available? The RPi2B box will be recommissioned as an OpenVPN server and will use wired Ethernet on the target system, but when I am setting up the box I don't have the ability to ...

Installing Raspbian on headless RPi4 - how?

I have ordered a new RPi4 with 4 GB RAM and will get it today. But I do not have a monitor to hook up to the RPi during installation (micro HDMI connectors only) and it is going to be used as a headless server type computer. So how can I set up the RPi4 from scratch without a monitor attached? Once ...

Samba shares on RPi mounted on Ubuntu - how to resume after fail

I have a couple of RPi units (RPi2B and RPi3B+) which have USB connected hard drives attached. These are automatically mounted on startup via /etc/fstab On both I have setup a samba share on the root of the USB drive with rw permissions. On an Ubuntu 18 server I mount these shares so I can copy over...

Re: RPi3B+ very slow WiFi

I am running OSMC on this new box so setting up WiFi etc is a bit different... Anyway I pulled the wired Ethernet and then I used the MyOSMC applet to change WiFi to use the 5G network. Now the results are as follows: Download: 100,106 Mbit/s Upload: 83,511 Mbit/s As can be seen a LOT better. So I s...

Re: fstab dilemma...

It seems like the ownership of the /mnt/mediadrive directory does not matter.
If the setting in fstab is rw and "readonly = no" in the smb.conf then read/write works.

In any case I am done now and it all works.

I am using an RPi2B as media center through OSMC/KODI. This RPi has a 1TB USB disk connected as media storage and it was mounted whenever the RPi boots.
