Re: Execute In Place (XIP) kernel

<t>You could try looking at the AXFS file system - wouldn't help with running the kernel XIP - but should be able to do application programs.<br/> <br/> For whats its worth I'd expect this to be so painfully slow, as to not be a viable way of doing things.<br/> <br/> I'd be more tempted to trying to...

Re: Sata To SD Card adapter

USB to SD card adapters are far easier. The SD card then appears as a memory card device, so its easy to mount  and do whatever you need to it.

The USB is easily fast enough ...

Re: Could use some help with SD-card programming

<t>So lets assume for a bit that you aren't going the direction of creating partitions that don't fill the SD card (which is an obvious way of reducing what is written).<br/> <br/> Then as I see it, the data needs to be written to the SD to create the filesystem. Now you can do this by a mkfs follow...

Re: Making a unique OS

<t>This seems the best info on how the beast comes to life (e.g. boots). Sounds like the videcore startup is not public, or as far as i can see well supported in the open development arena. So yes, all you can do is have the fat partition, with the GPU blob on it, and a kernel image, that I guess ne...

<r>rpt said: <br/> <br/> <br/> Actually the Pi does boot direct from the SD card. At boot time the GPU runs before the ARM processor. Re: Making a unique OS

<t>That bits easy – unplug the SD card from the pi – plug it into your development machine – the write the file system.<br/> <br/> That kinda why you'll need to understand the pi boot process – I guess it will have something in flash/rom by default – and you'll need to fit in with that. E.g. if its ...

Re: Making a unique OS

<t>For a start you'll need to compile a cross compiler, and probably a c library uclib or glibc. Its a bit of a hassle, which is why things like buildroot are helpful - cos they do all that for you.<br/> <br/> Also look into what boot loader you'll be using - arm machines usually don't go the grub d...
