Re: Autostart Emulationstation

This part does an autologin, but assumes your user is "pi". If it's not "pi" you need to update it accordingly. Also note the first line is me commenting out the old behavior, which you need to do as well: In /etc/inittab: #1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty --noclear 38400 tty1 # change for auto login 1:23...

Re: Autostart Emulationstation

I got emulationstation to autostart by following what retropie did in the setup script... Auto login and boot of emulation station: In /etc/inittab: #1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty --noclear 38400 tty1 # change for auto login 1:2345:respawn:/bin/login -f pi tty1 </dev/tty1 >/dev/tty1 2>&1 In /etc/profil...

Play the first part of Final Fantasy 3 and you won't think that anymore. ;)
Hint: that unpleasant buzzing sound you hear actually sounds like the wind on other emulators

Re: GAMES LIST: Games That Work On The Pi

You also should add a few more emulators, since the perform better than the RetroArch cores, including pisnes and fceux ... mame4allpi performs much better than the retroarch core, and pisnes has somewhat better music reproduction (though that's probably debatable b/c they can both be really bad at...

Re: NES and SNES Emulators only

Retropie supports selectively installing only the emulators you want, assuming you don't use the preconfigured card image. That would be the easiest approach.

Re: little big planet pi edition (LBP)

Yes. Also LBP is a complex game, the PS3 had 8 cores clocked at 3.2GHZ so the pi will almost certainly not be able to run it. Plus the PS3 is much more complex to code, because of the technology the CPU was built on. Btw I don't mean architecture being different, the engine or whatever that the PS3...

Re: RetroPie Gamelist.xml and snapshots for mame full romset

Did you follow the script instructions exactly? Are you sure that emulation station is configured to point at that rom directory? (maybe include the relevant snippet of es_systems.cfg in your next post) Did you make sure that emulation station wasn't already running while you attempted to replace th...

Re: RetroPie Gamelist.xml and snapshots for mame full romset

This is a neat idea, and I was wondering if someone would ever do it. Unfortunately, the images provided are of very low quality compared to what you can obtain from common sources. BTW, you shouldn't need to build the gamelist.xml or obtain images manually. Check out this script! :D http://www.rasp...

mame4all-pi save states?

Any way to save progress in mame4all-pi? The page mentions the "Save states directory", but nothing else about how to use it: http://code.google.com/p/mame4all-pi/ I've tried the load/save buttons that work for pisnes, but that don't do anything in mame4all-pi. I also don't see how to configure it i...

Re: EmulationStation/RetroPie Help Please

What's the exact boot error? With errors, knowing the exact error text is critical, and doing a google search for that text often leads to useful discussions. For example, I searched for "retropie kernel panic" and this was the first hit:

SNES sound issues + questions

I've been comparing the sound of various SNES emulators on the pi, using two parts of the introduction in Final Fantasy 3: 1. The first set of music with overlayed text that you can't skip over 2. First scene after that with no music where there are just wind sounds The emulators I have exhibit wild...

Re: Star Wars graphical errors in RetroPie

I'm not at my pi right now, but I believe that mame4all-pi is in ~/RetroPie/emulators/mame4all-pi. I cd to that directory and launch with ./mame. If there are no roms, it will launch properly, tell me there are no roms, then quit after a few seconds. If there are roms, it will open and immediately ...

What's the exact commend you're using to try to open mame4all manually? And what console output appears when it just exits (assuming roms in the roms folder).

I installed the PiMAME image to see what would happen. I used the mame4all-pi emulator with the same exact ROM, and it worked perfectly. Here's the thing, in RetroPie, the only thing that I changed after installing the image on the SD card was expanding the file system, installing the xboxdrv packa...

Thanks for the feedback! It's great to hear that you found it useful. I figured the best thing would be to integrate them all into a singl...

Script to generate Emulation Station xml (MAME/FBA/consoles)

I wrote a script to generate the Emulation Station xml, and thought others might be interested. The only alternative I've found is ES-scraper, which can take multiple days to run if you have thousands of roms. The big advantage of my script is that it runs entirely offline within a couple seconds. F...

Re: rom issue with pi mame4all and other issues

mame4all requires 037b5 roms, such as the "037b5 complete full 2270 romset" (google it for more info). The roms also need to be placed in the roms directory within mame4all, and when you start them you need to to leave off the extension. So you'd say "./mame paperboy" instead of "./mame paperboy.zip...
