Re: How to program visual application on my pi?

However this was a C++ question on a C++ thread so a bit of ribbing is kind of justified. :) Oh, I see. I didn't notice it was in the C++ subforum until now that you say it, because I always do click that "New Posts" button on top of the website, and just see all the articles like in one big forum ...

Re: How to program visual application on my pi?

Oracle and the Raspberry Pi Foundation provide a pre-installed high-quality Java Virtual Machine on the PI, for which I'm very thankful. It's an impressive piece of software, for sure. Well done.

Re: 16GB SanDisc

I too got such a SanDisc SD-card and it works fine. It's in work-daily use since Christmas when I got my PI. What exact SD-card modell do you guys have? My seller (Amazon) lists it as "SDSDU-016G-U46 Ultra SDHC Class 10 UHS-I, 30Mbps". But maybe there's a way to read its exact modell data from the d...

Re: Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi

The latest Raspbian, with the latest turbo driver code, provides a pretty decent desktop speed, and almost everything that Ubuntu provides. Use that. A very sensible statement. It's exactly so. For example, Xubuntu Linux (an official Ubuntu derivate with the lightweight XFCE desktop) is similar to ...

Re: Daten Archivieren beim Kopieren

Re: SD backup using Win32DiskImager won't start

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have no access to "real" Linux. I have the Pi, running its version in the Raspbian distribution, and I have Windows 7 on my PC. I do not have the utility you mentioned. Oh, that's good to go. You could use two options: 1) The simpler way, download an Intel/...

Re: SD backup using Win32DiskImager won't start

I find Linux to be an excellent way to also handle images. Either use a native Linux, or a live CD/DVD booted Linux. Even a Linux running as virtual machine in for example Virtualbox should work. So, in Linux, it's a child's play: on your Debian based Linux (Debian itself, or the simpler to use desk...

Re: Raspberry as Windows application display

Probably you would still need one main PC to run your Windows industrial program, but it could feed several Raspberries connected via a normal network. The free VirtualBox runs on hosts like Windows, Linux, etc, and you could run a virtual machine with your industrial program on Windows (guest) on t...

Re: Netzwerkprobleme (LAN)

Re: Accelerated x driver?

Great to hear! That's really good news. Weston/Wayland I heard from, but I will defenitely check it out, now that I learnt it's going to run also on the PI in the future. Edit: I think this is the Youtube video you could have meant. It shows Eben Upton from the Raspberry Pi Foundation talking on Lin...

Re: Accelerated x driver?

Thank Jamesh for your helpful answer, as usual. This whole PI is so exciting. It's a wonderful little machine. And I'm so impressed that nearly all these stable Debian packages run on the ARM ! That's a master-piece. I lost track of the ARM when Acorn went down with my Archie, but now it's a kind of...

Re: Accelerated x driver?

Neobusy, I get similar % values, also using XFCE here. I'm wondering if my hardware acceleration is on? Because of the following lines in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log which sound strange to me (but I'm not a Linux or X expert), so I marked them with a "***". Does anybody know what these marked lines mean...

Feeds (RSS) for the forum

Is there a more classical way to read and follow these many forums here, like for example a RSS feed, or a news/usenet server? Unfortunately I didn't found one. What I found on the good old news server "news.gmane.org" is a mirror of the Foundation's anouncement: group "gwene.org.raspberrypi" This i...

Re: 2 dead SDHC cards in as many months, what am I doing wro

I think the majority of SD card corruption problems were solved by the recent firmware update. Is there more information available on this, please? I'm by no way a system/low-level programmer, but what you write is so interesting that I'd love to learn more about this. You mentioned var/log files t...

Changelog of new Firmware, Video chip driver, etc?

Good day, When today I updated my Raspbian (via "apt-get update", "apt-get upgrade") I noticed it downloaded a 50+ MByte Debian package with Raspberry internales like firmware, etc. Probably there's some way to see a logfile with all the details of that package afterwards, but unfortunately I wouldn...

Although not a "calendar only" application, Mozilla's Thunderbird plus the Lightning calendar extension (=add-on) should be able to do what you're searching for.
