Re: Raspbian Stretch VLC not working for second user

The newest VLC uses hardware acceleration indeed, which is great. The command line program omxplayer which also uses hardware acceleration, needs a user to be in the group "video" before he can use omxplayer and other applications which use the Videocore hardware. Like: adduser newuser video I think...

Re: Installing Ubuntu-Mate to Raspberry Pi 1

Can anyone help me installing Ubuntu-Mate on my RBPi 1 Ubuntu compiles their 32-Bit ARM packages against ARM7, so it won't run on a Pi1 with ARM6. At least you need a Pi2 with ARM7 or a Pi3 with ARM8 to run ARM Ubuntu. P.S. And you won't have the OpenGL driver and other Raspbian-only bits, like har...

AFAIK Mate needs a 2B or later.
[Edit: Yes indeed.]

The Ubuntu Mate flavour also bundles a ready-to-run image for the Pi, using Raspbian's kernel plus some driver and Ubuntu's normal 32-Bit ARM7 packages from the Ubuntu server.

Re: Is it possible to respond to a thread without bumping it?

It is especially frustrating when one responds to a long dead thread with updated information and the mods complain. I feel it is better to bring the information up to date than let someone googling find the wrong out of date information, thus responding to very old threads is often a very good thi...

Re: Programmers Text Editor?

I am looking for something like !Zap is on RISC OS. That is a very simple syntax highlighting multi file text editor that has an absolute minimal of extras. XFCE's Mousepad is similar to !Zap concerning the minimalistic approach. It can search and replace in all opened text files. MATE's Pluma is m...

Re: How to speed up MAME from apt-repository?

I solved the problem. Here's the settings how to run MAME+MESS in a hardware accelerated window or in full-screen, so that many MAME programs run perfectly with 0 frame-skips, and more demanding ones skip some frames but are still well useable. MAME's speed doesn't depend on the window size anymore ...

Thanks for your reply.
Throttling seems to work fine here: with CPU load vcgencmd says 1200 MHz, whilst in CPU idle mode it says 600 MHz.

Re: Some fast questions about raspberry pi

Talking about Chromium: why is this browser so much faster on the Pi compared to Firefox v52 pre-Quantum on the Pi?

Do we already know when Firefox Quantum will come to Raspbian's repository?

(I am asking because Firefox Quantum is noticeably faster than pre-Quantum.)

1. Has a power button? I miss such a power button on the Pi. However amongst the USB power supplies working well with the Pi, there's a few with a power-button in the USB cable (to the Pi). Such a power supply is only few pennies more expensive but this way you practically get a power button for yo...

Weil Netbeans komplett in Java geschrieben ist, läuft es unverändert auf jedem System mit einer Java-Virtuellen-Maschine (JVM), also auch auf dem Pi. How to speed up MAME+MESS from apt-repository?

MAME 0.182 with integrated MESS, from an up-to-date Raspbian 9.4 Stretch on a Pi3 with enabled OpenGL driver, runs basically. It skips several frames, depending on the emulated system and screen size.

Is there anything we can do in order to speed up MAME?

Re: Best Rpi3 browser for X11 forwarding session

You could try the Opera variant Vivaldi , it's one of the fastest browsers on the Pi (faster than Firefox). It's not open-source but free to use. Also it's not a "light" browser but a mature one like Firefox. It works well over SSH, but that depends on which sites you browse and how much differing g...

Die CPU Temperatur kannst Du auf der Konsole ausgeben (1/1000 °C) mit:

Code: Select all

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
Oder direkt als Gradzahl mit Kommawert:

Code: Select all

vcgencmd measure_temp

The officially supported os is Raspbian. [..] That's means support for Ubuntu is thin here, unless suplied by community members. Being on download page does not make it official or supported. Ubuntu-Mate for Raspberry Pi is a Community Release (not official) and ideally one should contact them for fixing issues. Ideally, yes, but… … the Ubuntu-Mate forum is not a real forum unfortunately, and not very usable. Also, all major Pi stuff is happening here, so this is always the first place ...

Unfortunately it didn't function successfully. Re: Pi → USB to parallel (centronics) cable → HP Deskjet ?

Thank you fellow Pi-users for your valuable informations.

I'll definitely buy and try such a cable to see if I can make the good old Deskjet to work with the Pi. Also good to know that basically HPLIP isn't even needed for the Deskjet 5xx series.

Have a good week.
